REAL ESTATE INSTITUTE OF NSW NOVICE AUCTIONEER COMPETITION 2006

Ellen Bathgate Wins Final of the Novice Auctioneers Competition

The 23-year old from Raine & Horne Dubbo won a tightly contested final at the Four Points by Sheraton in Sydney.

It was only the second ever auction for Ellen – the first being her winning auction at the Orana Division's Competition in August.

“I would encourage others to enter the competition – even just as a personal milestone. I had no intention of getting this far, but I can say I've done it now. Ninety-five per cent of people would never get this experience,” she said.

The competition was intense, with six finalists: Christel Baker of McGrath Estate Agents and Deborah Montgomery of McLachlan Partners (joint Central Coast winners), Ellen Bathgate of Raine & Horne Dubbo and Annie Pike of Ray White Dubbo (Orana Winner and runner up respectively), Daniel Coe of Ray White Phipps & Stewart (Illawara winner) and Brad Cole of Cooley Auction Services.

Each auctioned off covetable items, from luxury accommodation packages to a private yacht charter on Sydney Harbour . The auctions collectively raised more than $10,000, with all proceeds donated to NRMA CareFlight.

Ellen effortlessly sold a trip for four to Western Plains Zoo in her auction. Her donors for the evening were Ken Tucker (a Narromine artist), Western Plains Zoo, Caltex Starmart Dubbo with a $100 fuel voucher and Avis Car Hire Australia.

The property manager said winning the award has given her more confidence. “Public speaking was my biggest fear, but now I know that I can do it well.”

Ellen now goes on to compete in the National Novice Auctioneer Competition to be held later next year.

The night was topped with an auction run by McGrath Estate Agents' Scott Kennedy-Green, winner of the Australasian Real Estate Institutes' Auctioneering Competition.
